About the Duramax LMM Engine

The Duramax LMM was the first generation to include a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to meet stricter 2007 EPA emissions standards. Despite the added emissions equipment, the LMM delivered slightly more power than the LBZ with 365 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque. The LMM does not require DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid), making it less complex than later generations. It also debuted in the redesigned 2007.5 Silverado and Sierra body style.

Duramax LMM Strengths

  • Slightly more power than LBZ (365 hp / 660 lb-ft)
  • No DEF requirement — only DPF for emissions
  • New body style (2007.5+) with improved cab and chassis
  • Same proven Allison 6-speed transmission
  • Strong block and internals shared with LBZ

Common Duramax LMM Issues (Addressed in Our Remanufactured Engines)

  • DPF can clog with excessive idle time or short trips
  • DPF regeneration cycles increase fuel consumption
  • EGR cooler can fail and cause coolant loss
  • Fuel injector failures at higher mileage

Duramax LMM Buying Guide

When purchasing a remanufactured LMM, ensure the DPF system is in good condition or has been serviced. The LMM shares many internal components with the LBZ, making it a strong engine mechanically. The LMM is identified by VIN code '6' in the 8th position. A quality remanufactured LMM should include inspected injectors, updated EGR components, and a verified turbocharger.

Frequently Asked Questions — Duramax LMM

How much does a remanufactured Duramax LMM engine cost?

A remanufactured Duramax LMM 6.6L engine typically costs between $6,500 and $9,000. The LMM is priced between the earlier LBZ and later LML due to its DPF but no DEF requirement. All our LMM engines include a comprehensive warranty. Call (631) 991-7700 for a quote.

Does the Duramax LMM have DEF?

No, the Duramax LMM does not require DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). It uses a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) for emissions control but does not have an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. DEF was not required until the LML generation in 2011.

What years is the Duramax LMM?

The Duramax LMM was installed in 2007.5 through 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD trucks. The '2007.5' designation indicates it started mid-model-year 2007 with the new body style.

Is the LMM the same as the LBZ?

The LMM and LBZ share the same basic engine block and many internal components, but the LMM adds a DPF for emissions compliance and has slightly different ECM tuning for 365 hp (vs 360 hp). The LBZ is more desirable because it lacks the DPF, but the LMM is mechanically very similar.
